LA Fires

We have watched with broken hearts as so much suffering and loss has consumed our dear neighbors to the south. It can be easy to feel helpless and overwhelmed in these situations. We can’t help everyone, but we can help somewhere. Pastor David and our staff have been in regular communication with our L.A. Nazarene District leadership and pastors to figure out the BEST way to support the LA community at this time. Here’s what we know so far:

  • According to our leadership on the ground there, it is still unsafe to enter the affected areas to begin clean-up and rebuilding. However, we anticipate in the future being able to send teams down to aid in the process.
  • Our LA churches don’t have the distribution or storage capacity to accept large amounts of supplies at this time. In fact, they’ve already received so many generous donations from community members that they are at capacity for supplies. Praise God!

Here is their biggest need right now:

Gift Cards

Their greatest desire, as of right now, is to be able to provide gift cards to people who have lost everything and are living out of hotels and guest rooms. This helps them to get a meal and/or clothes and supplies based on their family’s needs. We are requesting gift cards in small-ish increments like $25-$50. Please no gift cards with large amounts of balances. They would rather give multiple gift cards to a family than have one large one that can’t be divided up. We will be accepting gift cards through the end of January and they can be dropped off at the Fire Relief table in the lobby on Sundays or in the main office throughout the week.
Here is the list of most helpful gift card locations:

Walmart
Target
Costco
Amazon
Whole Foods
Trader Joe’s
Vons/Safeway
In and Out
Jersey Mike’s
Chick-Fil-A

Subway
McDonalds
Burger King
TJ Maxx
Marshall’s
Home Goods
Rite Aid
CVS
Walgreens

If you’d like to give financially, we suggest you donate to the LA District (church of the Nazarene)  as we are confident the funds are going directly to those who need it most. They are also posting updates on their Facebook page if you’d like to stay informed on the situation and relief effort from the church’s perspective.
