Listen and Pray through Galatians 6:1-10

Click the button below to listen and pray through this passage. This practice will take about 10 minutes.

Prepare

As we enter prayer today, we pause to be still; to breathe slowly, and to re-center our heart, thoughts, and senses on the presence of God.

“Lord, as I come before Your Word, open my heart to receive Your truth. Let Your Spirit guide me, correct me, encourage me, and shape me into the image of Christ. Amen.”

Read the passage slowly, attentively, and with expectation. Listen for a word or phrase that stands out to you.

Read

Galatians 6:1-10

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

Listen & Reflect

Pause for a moment and let these words settle into your heart and thoughts. What word or phrase stood out to you the most? Why do you think God is drawing your attention to it?

As we return to a portion of the passage, allow yourself to be humbled and open to receive His word for you today. Reread verses 1-3.

Ask God to bring to your mind someone in your life who has been walking a different path than the one God has called them to. Have you been observing their actions and decisions with haughtiness and judgement or with humility and gentleness? Spend a few moments praying for them and asking God how he might want to use you to share their burdens and help steer them back to the path that leads to life.

Lord, give me a heart for those in my life who have wandered. Help me to love them with grace, humility and gentleness. Remind me of my own shortcomings that I may not become prideful and susceptible to sin myself. Show me how I should help them. Use me to encourage them and equip them.

As we return to another portion of the passage, spend a moment evaluating what seeds you’ve been planting lately. Reread Galatians 6: 7-8

Have the seeds you’ve been sowing harvested life or decay in your life? What about in the lives of those closest to you? Ask the Lord to search your heart again and be willing to be honest with yourself. When you peer beneath the surface, have you been living to satisfy your own desires or have you been walking in step with the spirit? Speak to me Lord, I’m listening.

Reread Galatians 6:9-10. Are you feeling weary? Are you frustrated by the lack of visible fruit from all your labor? Are you tempted to abandon the often long and difficult road  of doing what is good? Paul encourages us to not give up. God’s timing is perfect and the labor will be worth it.

Spend a few moments in silence allowing the Spirit to encourage your soul. To strengthen and equip you for the good you are made to bring to this world. Simply rest in Him, allowing His truth to take root in your heart.

As you breathe in, repeat to yourself: The Spirit is with me.

As you breathe out, release your doubts and frustrations as you repeat: I trust in God’s timing.

Pray

Father,

Thank You for Your Word that speaks truth and life. Help me to walk in step with Your Spirit, carrying the burdens of others while standing firm in faith. Let my actions reflect Your love and grace, and may I never grow tired of doing what is right. When I do feel weary, remind me that your timing is perfect and your power is expressed best in my weakness.  Keep me from deception and pride, and strengthen me for the journey ahead, helping me to sow seeds that lead to eternal life.

Amen.
