Prepare
Today we are going to meditate on God’s greatness, majesty and holiness. He is holy in the truest sense of the word. He is set apart. Completely unlike anyone or anything in all of existence. So…prepare your heart to enter into his presence as he’s invited you into it today.
Take a few moments to humble yourself before the Lord. Release any false notions of self-importance and come expecting to meet with the Lord on High, the King, the Eternal God over all.
Read
Isaiah 6:1-8
It was in the year King Uzziah died[a] that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. 2 Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 They were calling out to each other,
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies!
The whole earth is filled with his glory!”
4 Their voices shook the Temple to its foundations, and the entire building was filled with smoke. 5 Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. 7 He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.”
8 Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”
I said, “Here I am. Send me.”
Listen & Reflect
Can you picture the scene? Can you feel the weight of God’s glory? The sheer volume of His majesty?
Take a moment to picture yourself in this throne room. Can you hear the seraphim singing Holy, Holy, Holy?
What does it feel like to stand before God’s holiness?
With those thoughts in mind, read the passage again.
When face to face with just a glimpse of God’s glory and majesty, Isaiah became instantly and acutely aware of his own smallness and unworthiness.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by God’s holiness or aware of your own shortcomings?
Surprisingly, God makes a way for Isaiah to stand in his presence and dialogue with the Lord most High. He has done the same for you today. Reflect on that a moment.
Where do you need to experience God’s cleansing touch today?
How does it feel to have your guilt removed? Are you living like a person who has had their sins forgiven?
Isaiah’s response to God’s cleansing and his calling was to simply state, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
God has cleansed YOU. He has called YOU. How will you respond today? Spend some time reflecting on God’s cleansing and calling on your life. Sit quietly and listen as you allow him to speak.
Pray
Holy God,
You are high and exalted, and the whole earth is filled with Your glory. I stand before You humbled and aware of my weakness and sin. Yet You, in Your mercy, reach out to cleanse me and restore me.
Thank You for Your grace that removes my guilt and draws me near to You. Lord, I hear Your voice calling. Help me to respond with courage and faith. Whatever You ask of me, let my heart say, “Here am I. Send me.”
Fill me with Your Spirit, strengthen me with Your power, and guide me as I follow Your call. May my life bring glory to Your name.
Amen.
